Default Chip Changing Questions

Okay, well i have absolutly no idea how racing chips work.
Are they worth it? How do they give your horsepower AND save alittle gas? anyone recommend one that actually works?
Does the car need to be tuned for it afterwards?

-thanks

There are no "chips" in these cars. What you can have done is have your pcm tuned.

Hes right,,,all the changes are made in the PCM itself, no little magic chip. When you read about having these cars tuned,,thats what they are referring to, making changes in the PCM to obtain performance safely, those who dont keep it safe, are bad tuners, and can cause serious damage to your car. Hope this helps.

Find a tuning shop near you that tunes, dynotunes cars or someone that has tuning experience & one of the tuning programs: HPTuners, LS1Edit, EFILive.
Tune Time Performance is in New Jersey, they should be able to help you out. If you car is stock & auto it might be worth it. If its a stock M6 I wouldnt even bother. If you have all them mods in sig & never had a tune, I highly recommend getting one. Youre probably running lean if so.

The last "chip" for these cars was for a 1993 LT1...Dyno tune or mail order is the way to go

A mail order tune should get you right in where you need to be on the tune, Frost did my very first mail order tune. I think I paid 125$,,I know TSP also does mail order tunes. Or you could have a full dyno tune, they strap it to a dyno and make multiple pulls to get the most out of it. I just had a dyno tune done on my new stroker I built. SQR did it last week , cost 500 worth every penny, took his time and did it right. I had a tune done by TSP on my H/C engine 2 years ago, it was 400, thats about the going rate for a dyno tune by a Shop. But with themods in your sig a mail order will get it real cose.

The OP may be referring to a handheld. Obviously a mail order and dyno will be better but what kind of gains can be expected from a handheld?

I remember tune time being a little on the expensive side w/ most of there stuff but I have heard good things...RPM in Delaware is also another choice...hes in Delaware but very close to NJ...his guy did my street tune and I was very happy.

@ dukes, I believe the only thing worth investing in would be the hptuners or ls1edit or some sort of laptop software, handhelds are pretty worthless after what ive heard from people that have had them and what ive read.
