Has anybody ever put an LSx engine into a Formula Ford or similar chassis? That combination would run like a raped ape.
FF chassis, older ones at least, run about $3-4k and weigh about 700lbs w/o engine or transaxle iirc. There are always plenty for sale at apexspeed.com 's forums.

Here's something similar. Looking at the pictures - The motor barely fits in the Ultima and it is twice as wide as a formula car. It does the same quarter mile with the big V8 as the ff's do with the 1.6l though.

Ultimas were designed to use a small block Chevy. In fact, the original designer was adamant that only a SBC should be used and argued with builders who suggested using LS engines.
How many people have every seen a FF, or any other formula car at the drag strip? It's a very odd comparison.
I don't see the advantage of a LS motor in a formula race car, it would need a dry sump system. But I agree with the OP that the strength to weight ratio sounds like fun.
