How to decrease the power in a LS1
Yes, its a rare question probably
But living in f##king Norway, its not easy to get a engine swap aprowed.
My project is a Jeep Wrangler TJ 1997, curently with the orginal 4banger.
Waiting for a 2002 LS1 from a camaro, its comes with the orginal 4L60E from the car its taken from. Its on a ship at sea now.
I have started reading around the nett about the engine and its components, and especially the PCM.
If I gona get the car aprowed with this engine I have to decrease the power down to about 200hp for road use and the car aprowal people. would have been nice to have the opportunity to have both full effect and a redused power mode.
Need tips from you all here, what shall i think about. F.ex could it be as easy as just choke the air inlet with some kind of decreasing ring, will the pcm handle the rest, as the flow over the maf sensor decreases?
All tips welcome, while I waiting for the engine and drowning in info by reading all the nettsites with LS1 info

Are they are actually going to measure the horsepower and is it just one time?
Simply adjust or limit the movement of the throttle cable so that it only opens the throttle body part way.

I would think that you could simply change the tune for reduced power. Turn the injectors way down so you are only getting like half the fuel they are capable of. Then you could reload the stock tune and be right back to full power. Might want to PM a sponsor on here. Frost would probably be a good bet since he does mail order.

I don't think cutting fuel would be a good idea, you don't wanna run lean and blow it. It gonna be very tough to cut output by nearly 50% and still make it run at all. Maybe some serious air and exhaust restriction, combined with a really dampened timing map, you might get there. When will they measure it? Will they measure it at all? is that 200WHP or 200 at the crank? Why the limitation? is it based on the displacement of the original motor?

Yes they want/demands to aprowe the swap, first i need to submit an application for the swap. In this application i have to tell in detail about what i gonna do. I have spoken on the phone with one of the gays at "biltilsynet"(car approwal/inspection services ,dont know what its gona be in US language), he told me they could max aprowe a increase in hp in about 10-15% off max the car was delivered with orginaly. They then compares with the 4L engine, as the rest is simular.
They wants the engine to be equal in weight, or at least comparable, therfor the LS1 all alu V8.
I have to prove the hp, if the engine had been with the right hp, i could yust get some papers from the orginal car, but now I need to have the car at a rolling higway at a local raceshop. The "biltilsynet" have a rolling highway as well,so they could decide to test it when I`m there. We could also be stoped somewere by the highway and pulled in to a test on the rolling higway they have.
The "biltilsynet" do this some times becourse people cheat on the WERY HIGH custom/tax over here. people buy cars with low hp, and yust chiptune them.
I`m not sure if I gona drive with full power after showing the car for the "biltilsynet", its hell of a ticket if they find out

I've heard that a "valet key" option is available with LS1Edit but not with HPtuners.
I also want a "low horsepower" option since I don't want to give my wife or the casino valets here in Vegas a 500HP car. I need to do some more research to verify but I'm been told that a switch (key activated or toggle switch) can change the tune to a 200HP or so variant.

restrictor plate seems the most logical choice to me. No tuning issues, if the mass air isn't getting air, it isn't going to put much fuel in. You could even do a restrictor on a little motor that only you know where the switch is for the wife =) That is if hptuners/efilive don't offer it already. You could also just have a rev limiter on it and limit it stupid low like 4000, swap out the pills and go up to 7 again.
