Need help! DOD problem!
Hey guys . Im trying to figure out whats wrong with my dads 08 Impala. He was driving the car last night around town and he decided to get into the throttle a little bit to pull out on the main road and he noticed it never did go into the v8 mode. What im trying to say is that it is always in the 4 banger mode... After this happened the engine light came on. We took it to a auto parts store to get it scaned. It showed a bunch of codes. One of the codes was about the maf. We later took the car home and took the air box off to check the Tb for dirt or gunk. It looked to me that the TB is not comming to a complete close... Would this cause the DOD to act up? Need some direction guys ... thanks

What codes? Hard to say anything useful without knowing.
The TB never completely closes - the electronic throttle bodies do not have a separate idle air control, so the TB itself is slightly open to provide idle air.

DoD will be disabled when the CEL is set for several codes. Since you have several codes set, it's hard to know which one is the root cause for your DoD being off without knowing what the other codes are.

I think the OP is having a different issue, but yes, if there's coolant loss and an overheat condition, the LS4 will default into a 4-cylinder "limp home" mode, where it alternates firing 4 cylinders and pumping air through the non-firing cylinders. The Northstar Caddys where the first to have this feature, and it once got me home in my Aurora when one of the electric fans cut my upper radiator hose.

Whatever the issue ends up being, tune DoD out as soon as it is resolved. The couple MPG's you get from it aren't worth the complications, and uneven engine wear over the life of the car. Plus, it will drive 8x better.
