Low voltage issue
I noticed that the voltage was running at 11 and assumed the alternator had gone out (again, happened last year). Just replaced it and it still is only 11 not the ususal 14. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what else would cause this? It's a 2000 lS1 in a jeep commando.
P.s. I really did search before asking.

Check the signal circuit to the alternator to make sure it is being commanded on. With the truck running you should have power at the generator turn on circuit. Without 12v there, the alternator will not energize.

I probably phrased that wrong. The wire that goes to the alternator is only showing 9 volts, but when you run a wire straight from the battery to the alternator (now 12V) the alternator works great. Why would the wire from the ecm only show 9v? I even swapped in a different ecm and had the same problem.
