SOUND dampening - Square foot question
OK folks. A thread here perked my interest: Sound dampening!
I am not interested in debating what product works best. I have spent the past 5 hours straight reading up on it - with no certain conclusion - but I am going with second skin damplifier pro.
NOW onto the question at hand!
I have my trans am stripped. Every piece is out. I have the old carpet out, and a new one ready to go in.
I am interested in adding ONE layer to the interior of the car:
rear hatch, floor, drivers /passenger seat area, doors.
- HOW MANY SQUARE FEET WILL I NEED?

I cant answer you question, but I can offer some comarison for you. I just did my wife's Infinity G37. I did all 4 dores, bellow and behind the back seat and the trunk. I used a kit from Dynomat that contained 72 square feet! I ran out before I finished the trunk so I am waiting on another 72 square feet to arrive in the mail. I know I wont need that much to finish her car, but I can use the rest in my vet.
Hope that helps....

Just 4 doors, under and behind the back seat, and most of the trunk before I ran out....
I will have around $500.00 in Dynomat in her car when I finish.

You have to be doing multiple layers then I assume?

To get the interior of an FBody perfectly, I used about 130. Double layered I used 260. At two bucks a foot for a brand that blows Dynamat's doors off in EVERY test, I feel pretty good about spending the same and getting about twice as much material. Second Skin also kicks Dynamat's ***, so you are in really good shape with your choice. I'm sure that in your research you found that Dynamat is for people who don't know better.
I do agree with 99Bluz28 for your situation. I went overboard. I pulled the dash and the venting to get the complete firewall. I also did the sides in the rear and the TTop area. I didn't leave a square inch uncovered. The ENTIRE interior was pulled for the install. You won't need 130. 80 should really cover what you listed - 100 MAX.
I also used about 25 more feet to cover the insides of the fender well plastic covers to cut road/tire noise from the LOUD Nitto NT05s (****, they are practically road racing slicks), but that was on top of the 130 for the interior.
Also, I found a way to approach a second layer for pennies on the dollar compared to the traditional approach while using the EXACT same material that the second layer should. Shoot me a PM if you want a link and some info.
