Default Belt tensioner again...

My 1997 Formula has just over 30000 miles and is on it's second replacement tensioner due to grinding noises off the pulley. First time was with another OEM unit. This time, I replaced it with a Dayco unit (this has a plastic pulley instead of metal).

It corrected my issue with grinding noises, but am curious to know why my first 2 went so quick. Does anyone else experience short-lived OEM tensioners? Also, am I ok with a plastic pulley? Thanks!

Default

It's likely because they sparingly grease the bearings in them. What you could do it pop open the new pulley seal, add more grease and that should last you ages. Probably couldn't hurt to check the grease inside every so often, couple years or so I'd say.
