incessant chirping noise!
Well my swap has been running fine for the past 2 years. Replaced the alternator a few weeks ago, and then it shredded my belt for some reason doing 80mph on the highway. Ever since I've had this chirping coming from the lower alternator bracket area. I've already pulled the tensioner and idler pulley and regreased them (they're damn near new anyway). Funny thing is, if I apply slight pressure to the crank pulley, the squeaking stops. Any idea as to why my crank pulley would all of a sudden be squeaking? Also the belt wants to jump forward one rib on the crank pulley, so I'm thinking its an alignment issue. Any suggestions?

I've seen the balancer separate from the rubber and causing belt damage and noise, you should check it again if your saying noise it from the balancer..also if you had it off recently I would make sure the bolt didnt back out.

Balancer has never been off this engine. It looks like something might have hit it though, there is a small section of the outer lip thats been broken off. The only thing changed was the the alternator, which I'm thinking may be the source of the problem. I'll see if I can post a video in a few.

Just thought I'd update. Since this issue arose, I put in a cam, tq conv, built tranny, etc. and the chirping noise was still there. I went with another new belt, and had the same problem. Someone suggested I switch to a Goodyear Gatorback belt (which NOONE carries locally) so I ordered one. Not a peep since.

Just a thought, if it happened when u changed the alternator, are you sure all the bolts are snug. Sounds to me like the alt itself may be loose and have some play on it.
