T56 Question
Okay so I know that a corvette T56 wont fit in a Trans Am, but I found a T56 from a 1997-2004 Corvette, and my 5-6 gears went out on my Trans Am, would the internals be interchangeable?

No. The corvette trans has triple/double cone style blocking rings where as the F-body has Double/single. The gears won't interchange.
This question would also be better if put in the manual transmission section of the board. That is where all of the T56 guru's hang out

Take your tranny apart, 5/6 gear are just under the tail housing so you wont even have to totally disassemble it(I wouldn't if you just wanna get it going). Figure out whats wrong(synchro or gear) and order NEW parts. They aren't that expensive. Oh and download a service manual. <---they are everywhere, just ask google.

No problem. It takes a little bit to get used to the setup. You could make that trans work in your car but you would need a GTO main shaft and combine both the corvette and the f-body trans to make one. If you wanted to send them to us we could do the conversion for you for a very reasonable price.
