Default slave cylinder spacer

i have a 98 camaro with a t56. my new clutch came with a slave cylinder spacer which is just a an round aluminum plate that goes behind the slave cylinder and my question is, do i need this? will this push it too far out? what are the pros and cons to this? and it is an oem clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel.
