Default Stuck in N & 4th

Yesturday, a lady talking on her cell phone pulled right out in front of me. I slammmmed hard on the brakes to avoid punching her square in the drivers door. I was going about 60mph when it happened. At the time I was in fourth gear. Once I regained my sanity from this women having no clue of what she had just done I went to down shift back to first and the shifter was stuck in 4th. After driving a short distanace I was able to get it into N but no side to side movement. Just N & 4th. After a 40 mile drive back to the house stuck in 4th I was able to get into 1st & 2nd with the engine off. But the shifter is really hard to move. Prior to this there has been no issues with the trans. Any ideas? Time for trans rebuild?

mine just did this. if you hit the shifter with decent force it pops back into neutral and if you yank side to side while stuck in neutral something breaks free and you can drive the car normally again. it will happen every couple times the car goes into 4th gear. multiple times a day. i'm pullin my trans out to go back to the tranny shop. I'll know what the problem is in a few weeks.

It's hard to describe, but there is a collar on the Shift Rail that may have come out of line.

My car did pretty much the same thing.. I had to slam it into 3rd with a lot of force and it freed up.. Now it grinds in third and fourth unless I pump the clutch between shifts, so there's something definitely messed up internally on mine. I'm think shift pads and syncros in my case.
