Default Recent Acceleration Problem

Last week I had a new muffler installed on my 2002 Firebird ( 6 cyl - 135k miles- automatic tranny). A week before that I had a new tensioner pulley and belt installed.

Service engine soon light was on before work done. Code was P0420. After work done, code cleared. Service light came back on later that day. Code reading same.

Yesterday while driving from Waukegan to Calumet City Illinois, car started performing poorly on hard acceleration. RPM and motor revs up but car slow to respond, gaining speed slowly. Little acceleration response until I got about 5 miles from Cal City, then normal acceleration under hard acceleration returned for about 3 miles, then started performing with slow response again.
Don't know if oxy sensors bad, cat converter bad, or just got a dose of bad gas in Waukegan.

Anyone have suggestions on steps I can take to diagnose problem.
Grateful for any help.
Thanks.
