Default 96 BMW 320i automatic v6 help!!

Hey guys I am in germany and just bought a beater car for my dd and winter car it's a BMW 320 I auto trans and it's a v6 sedan. Now the car runs smooth clean interior and exterior . But when at idle the car surges or feels a lil like it's chocking and goes from like 500 rpm to 1500 rpm , and the exhaust is quiet but it sounds like it is choppy a lil . It only does this sometimes but sometimes it does it a bad . Like it's choke ing ... Please guys any advice and thoughts would be great !! Like I said besides idle the car runs and shifts great with no funny sounds !! Thanks

Is there some sort of mass airflow sensor that you could replace? Maybe an IAC of some type? Is it throwing a service engine light?

Any hissing sounds from the engine bay? If so, try to find the source of the hissing - it's probably a vacuum leak.

I will try to find the airflow sensor. And what's a iac ? And no, no service lights or anything. Only at idle it does it and now when we drive below 10 mph and it stops after awhile but on the highway it runs perfect . Also a vacuum leak , can u give me info on what a vacuum leak is and how we can fix it?

Every engine is self cleaning. Without this cleaning action, your engine would get dirty very fast. To keep the particulates out of the engine, it uses a form of vacuum to suck the contaminants out of the airstream before entering the cylinders. If you have a leak in this vacuum system, the motor refuses to run right.

Don't waste your time on coil pack, spark plugs, and wires, cam sensor, and yeah. Have nothing to do with your problem. We told u not to get a German car lol. But check your vacumm leaks, MAF, Idle Air Control valve. Take out the idle control and clean it. It helps a lot of times. What year is it again?

Depends on what it is. It can be as simple as a vacumm line to a cracked manifold.

.... pretty sure its not a V6 and more like an I6 and most likely it will be a vaccum leak.

spray carb cleaner near the vacuum lines and see if your idle jumps up.

Ok update.. I took the wire that plugs into the MAF off and it was really loose on the MAF . Like it was barley plugged in. Then I plugged it in and tighten it and the car started acting worse! So I finally just unplugged it fully and now it runs alot better so I am assuming it's the MAF ...will see
