Default Driveshaft Install Issue

I've removed the driveshaft from my Tremec 5sp. After replacing the tailshaft seal, I can't get the shaft to slide back in enough to set the rear U-joint in its' cradle. It still needs to slide in an additional 2 to 2 1/2".
While the driveshaft itself has a key-like groove between the splines, the tranny doesn't seem to have the same (that I can see). Is the groove on the driveshaft supposed to line up with anything on the output shaft of the tranny?
As you can tell, I didn't mark the positions before removal.
I've also checked the bushing in the tailshaft. It seems to be smooth & placed properly.
Thanks.

Did you replace the bushing as well?

No, it's the original.

If you rotate it so the splines are meshed with different ones and it's still doing it, eyeball inside for anything that's blocking it and if there's nothing, make sure the splines don't show torsional damage, then tap it in w/ a rubber or bronze mallet.

It really helps if you know the history of the trans. (prior owner big rpm clutch dumps etc.) and it can be helpful if the tailhousing comes off so you can confirm it's either the bushing or the spline relationship.

Thanks, Matthew

I'm the orig owner-less than 400 mis on the tranny.
I just got done installing a new exhaust, so I'm unable to see anything directly without a mirror & a lamp...not too eager to disassemble everything.
I'll try rotating the splines again to see if it will find a spot to engage.
