I have a 97 TA it must have been an early production date becuase it got the analog odometer. I had a 01 TA cluster laying around so I figured I would see if it would work. All the gauges work except the tach (& possibly speed I have not driven the car).

The tach is reading double the actual engine RPM.

Does anyone know if you can use a LS1 cluster in an LT1 or do I have to find the 97 year specific cluster if I wanted the digital odometer?

It could work but you have two main issues, first the tach reads double because the LS1 PCM counts more times for the tach out put than the LT1 PCM does, I don't know the exact term but when I did the EFI 24X, the tach count had to be changed in HPtuners, so you would need to remedy that in the LT1 PCM. Secondly, the fuel sending unit is different than the LT1 so that won't read right. Oil and temp may work as well as speedo.
