dealer really can't void your warranty unless they can prove the mod you did caused any kind of problem. That said, they will try to make it a problem for any component that you have modded... for example, add a y-pipe and they may try to tell you your exhaust system is no longer under warranty. 
FWIW, don't waste too much time with a y-pipe unless you plan on NEVER getting headers. If there's even a remote possibility that you'll get headers in the next 5 years, I'd just save the money and wait until you get them.
