Default Please Help! Question about gear whine.

Recently I noticed there is a humming noise coming from the rear, the noise increases with speed, and it started at about 35mph and continues to get louder.

But, the noise is still there whether i let go of the pedal, put it in neutral or press the clutch pedal.

So, does rear end still whine even though I am in neutral and/or no load? I am not sure if the noise is wheel bearing noise or rear end noise, and if you can tell me how to tell the difference between wheel bearing noise and rear end noise, i'd really appreciate it.

thanks!!

Sounds like wheel bearing noise to me, or possibly a brake pad dragging.

That might be true, since i noticed that there's a lot more brake dusts on my rear wheels than my fronts.

Hmm, I'll get that check out ASAP.

Thanks!!

Excessive dust definitely means a pad is likely dragging.
