I agree. The pic that he has posted of the engine looks a little suspicious. I would think that a motor with all that work would be a lot cleaner, especially if the work was done recently. In theory, you could be looking at a 383, but a 383 that is 15 years old or something.

ask to see dyno sheet. i think anyone who thought they had a 500 hp engine would throw it on a dyno to find out.
if it's want you want, buy the car and pull the engine. then part out the rest of the car and get some of your money back.

IF that engine is what he says it is you do not want it. It is a lesson in ignorance.
Besides it says Not sure if that means he blasted all the powdercoat off an LT4 intake and it has ported LT4 heads or if he blasted off the powdercoat and put an LT4 intake on ported LT1 heads.
He bought the cheapest rotating assembly he could, put the biggest cam comp offered, likely has no idea what the topend actually is so unlikely it is quality.
I would frankly be willing to pay MORE for a car with a stock engine than that joke, unless he could prove it was LT4 heads and intake then maybe a little more because you could flip the LT4 heads/intake to some other ignorant fool when you tear the engine apart to find out just how bad it is.
I am sure this response will not be well received but having put together a fast car and tried helping a LOT of folks cleanup messes like this I am pretty confident in my evaluation.
Either way more likely is it is an LT1 intake and the guy is either lying or just stupid. The LT4 intake is NOT an upgrade and making it fit LT1 heads ruins any potential it might have had.

lt4 intake and heads ported polished and matched

If the car is as clean, not relying on the motor specs its probably worth the 4K, But I seriously doubt that it is making 500HP..I just don't understand when people say the AC works but only needs a charge, If its as little as only putting some freon in, why would you drive around without ac? This always tell me the system is bad, leaking, compressor ect..

usually the ones that are left for dead. just picked up a 95 t/a with core support damage. needs $600 worth of frame work but i'll have less than 2k in it after it's painted. get me a price on the ceta if you don't mind. all birds that can be repaired should be and all cetas HAVE to be restored. the Trans Am is an american legacy and icon. the ceta was the end of an era that should be honored. production of the Trans Am stopped in 02 but the legacy will live forever.

You would be better off putting ported stock heads and a cam on your stock shortblock than buying a car like that.
The ad proves raging ignorance and in all likelyhood the car is a underperforming trainwreck that will be slower and less reliable than modding the stock engine. Even halfway smart guys get duped into buying junk and from the ad this guy aint smart.
I understand having a tight budget, I still don't have a big budget but bigger than it used to be. I bought cheap parts for awhile and then learned research and buying a few key pieces that are very good is a whole lot cheaper than buying a lot of junk.

sounds like good advise to me. best to learn from others experiences than to learn from your own mistakes.
i'm new to the lt1 but was told that c/a and exhaust(long tubes, off road y and good muffler) was the best bang for the buck for a stock setup. comments welcome.

Second gear needs a new syncro.
How long till the other gears need synchros?
When you tear apart a high mileage/hard driven transmission, you don't just replace a "bad synchro." You do a full rebuild, the right way, and be prepared to shell out around $1000 or more.
Screw this car, the owner's full of crap. No effing way its making 500hp-- maybe 400 on a good day.
