Default 98 ss rearend making noise is it common

My 6 speed SS is making a noise when I back up or when I make a turn, the noise is like a clicking almost like a bad cv joint on a front wheel drive. Going down the the road it is quite. Is this common? I have heard that it can be.Thanks

I don't think its normal. You probably have a torsen differential and they have lots of moving parts. Have you checked or changed the rear end lube? Its probably due for a change. A Torsen diff has no clutches or cones so technically it does not need 4 oz of friction modifier added but I have read that it does help quiet them down.

It was just changed at the dealer and they said everything was fine, I have heard that the 98 had diff? and that it made more noise when backing up and when turning in tight circles. They said that chevy stopped using them because of that.
