Just as the title states, my 2011 silverado with 6k miles lost oil pressure on Labor Day. I shut the engine down immediately after it threw an alarm on my information center. GM Roadside came and picked it up and delivered to dealership. The service desk said it needed an oil pump. Oil pump was replaced and there was still no oil pressure. Now its getting a replacement engine. I changed the engine oil at 3k miles with a wix filter and mobil1 5w30There was not even a sign of metal on my magnetic plug. Here are my questions...
Will the replacement engine be new? Service told me yes. A mechanic told me no.

Would it be logical to tell them I want a new pickup through the GM buyback? I dont really like the idea of having a new pickup that has been diassembled at the beginning of its life.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Im pretty down on this deal. GM 5.3s have always been super good to me and Im a repeat GM customer.

It better be new with the amount of miles you have..

There is no way in hell... they would put a used motor in my truck with the miles you have listed.

If service told you yes then thats all that matters.

I hope so. I was hoping there was someone on here that works in GM service and could answer that question definitively. Ive never had a 5.3 go down on me and Ive drove the **** out of a lot of them. This one actually happens to be primarily driven by my non-enthusiastic-driving wife.

Don't worry about it... the service manager said it would be new.

I had more miles on my first ls1 that went bad and I got a new motor too.

Yes you will get a new motor. No they won't buy it back they will fix it though. Anything mechanical can break. How many 5.3's are out there and how many have you seen break? Sounds like a good ratio to me.

i had this same problem in 2005.they put a new engine witch they will use your same heads intake and etc.but i will say the replacement engine ran a helluva lot better than the first one.

Why just a shortblock? Id be only satisfied with a complete new engine just because I made a payment on that bitch yesterday while it was sittin in the shop with the motor pulled.

I believe they will put a new engine since, they don't want to deal with it breaking down on you again and the truck having alot of the warranty still left.

Make sure you tell them to install a cam, springs, pushrods and converter in there while they are at it.

like others have said will get you a new short block and use your heads etc. Had one replaced on my v2, and it runs a heck of a lot better then the stock one, yet my stock one had 35xxx miles. Don't worry about it, that's what the warranty is for. **** happens, who cares. Like others have said, how many engines are out there, one is gonna break, it's not a perfect world.

Because that's all that is wrong with it. If it had a rear wheel bearing go bad they wouldn't replace the whole rear end, if a tire went bad they wouldn't replace the wheel.... see what i'm saying?

And the engine will be new. I wouldn't listen to "a mechanic" over the dealership advisor. If said mechanic was the dealership mechanic working on your truck I would be concerned. But it sounds to me like you talked to a mechanic outside of the dealership that doesn't know what he is talking about.

My 08 Sierra had a motor replaced at 3K miles due to a collapsed lifter. **** happens.

update:

9/9/11
The engine is disassembled. The mechanic said he has been completely unable to find anything wrong with the engine other than scarred bearings. Cam and lifters were spotless. The service manager said he talked to the GM rep today and he recommended the engine be rebuilt and installed back in the pickup. Im not down with that.....

If it's a new shortblock or your rebuilt one, who's to say it won't fail again? Just the luck of the draw, but if they originally said new motor....... rebuilt isn't new, it's new-ish.

refuse to accept a rebuilt motor done by a dealership. the factory new engine is what you want and they will give it to you.

Ya no way in hell, I would be on the phone with every manager you can get, trust me. If they don't help you ask the speak to their manager, and go up, eventually they will give you what you want.

Ultimately it's going to be up to the area rep, politely demand a new engine, and not a rebuilt one.

Great thing about Texas is that we have the lemon law. Let them rebuild it and run the dog **** out of it. If it blows, take it back and get a new motor or truck out of it. Happened to me in my truck. Ended up with a year newer truck.
