Ls1 into 70 Nova- voltage problem and power/ecomomy switch hook up..
Hi, l just put a 5.7L LS1 into a 70 Chevy Nova. Its all done and running but the only problems i'm having is when l start the car the voltage guage reads 12volts or just under and it will read that all day unless l flog the crap out of it and then it will read 14 volts and stay there. Does anyone know whats going on??
And my other issue is l have a wire coming from the PCM for my power/ecomomy switch and i'm wondering if anyone has a wiring diagram or can tell me how to hook it up to get it working.
Thanks.

What is this " power/ecomomy switch"? I never heard of it.

Your voltage problems sounds like you have a bad field current connection. Kinda sounds like a self exciting alternator that needs to be reved over a certain RPM before it fires up.
Pull the alternator and have it checked at a parts store. If good just start tracing wires.

Well the conversion't done in Australia and the motor's out of a 2002 holden commodore and there's a wire out of the PCM that goes to a switch that runs through the transmission that apparently holds the gears longer when the button's pressed.
And thanks for the alternator idea- i'll get it checked and hope it is a bad alternator not the wiring.
