180 stat, what does your car run at?
I had a stock thermostat in my 1998 WS6, Owners manual states, its a 180, but everybody online told me its a 195.
With my manual fan switch, it runs 195-197 all day long, as long as the fans are on.
Nice, but i would like it a little lower.... .
So... i was doing a coolant flush today, and decided to put a 180 stat in my car, and to my suprise, it does not run that much lower.
190-192 all day, sitting in traffic, with fans on low, to running 70 mph, with fans on high (78 degree ambient temps)
Whats the deal? Was the factory stat really closer to a 180, or is the coolant temp difference between the sensor, and the t-stat that much of a difference? OR, did i really max out my cooling capacity?
All numbers are with a OBD-2 data logger, so they are accurate.
If you have a 180 stat, what temps do you see normal driving , with fans on.

I have a 180. Temps are just like yours when cruising at steady speeds, 190-192. I set my fans to
Fan 1 on @204 off @198
Fan 2 on @210 off @205
So when sitting idling, It'll usually only get up to 205 or so before it cools back to 196 on atap. High speed rarely cuts on unless it's really hot.
With the stock stat I was never able to get the car cooler than about 200 no matter what fan settings or outside temps at a steady cruise.

As i have heard from others that they ran over 200 all the time too.
I will program for those fan temps, when i decide what programmer to go with. Thanks.

i see nominal 185ECT (efilive 6.3.3) with my 160T and edit fan tuning. thats reasonable for putzing around in this weather. We'll see when it actually gets hot this summer.
