Default New to tuning...

I just complete a stock 5.3L swap into a G body Malibu. It runs fantastic.. however I would like to be able to tune on my own and be more familiar with the ls ecu.. however minor or major the changes may be.

So I have two questions:

1) which software is user friendly that you would reccomend for beginners?
2) Is there much more power to be had out of a factory 5.3L truck tune? Timing, wot fuel tables, speed density tune, with headers and cold air?

Thanks!

I can only comment regarding HP Tuners, I have found it to be forgiving and easy to navigate for the novice. To further answer your question, yes, the stock 5.3 tables benefit greatly from tuning. My stock '03 5.3 high octane timing map had 0* advance at 1800 (negative before that) maxing out at 11* from 4000 RPM to 6000 RPM. I really think they try to de-tune the 5.3 so the 6.0 feels stronger.

If it runs good now, it should run awesome after some simple tuning.

I dont know about HP tuners but i know you can go on EFIlive.com and download there program in a demo mode to do a "Test run". If you decide to do this let me know and i will give you a little heads up on how to get started, They load some "Test" tunes into the program that i just so happened to stumble upon after i actaully bought it.
