Question HELP! 2003 Silverado with a blown up 4.8

As the title says,I have a 2003 Silverado that it appears that the oil pump quit and the engine seized. It has a 4.8 in it and I checked around and found that the 4.8 are more expensive than the 5.3 My question is what changes (mechanical or electrical) need to be made to install a 5.3 into this truck? I realize they are pretty much the same engine other than stroke, ect. My concern is timing, fuel, ect. Would I be able to say take the 4.8 intake, injectors, throttle body and put them on a 5.3 and run the truck? Or do I even need to do that-just throw the 5.3 into the truck and run it. Now this is assuming that I have the same year 5.3 to put into the truck. I have a 005 5.3 here but it is fly by wire tho I think I would just need to change the intake.
I am thinking this is probably a stupid question,I searched back through threads trying to find the answer with no luck. Please let me know what NEEDS to be done in order to install a 5.3 into this truck. I am trying to help someone else out. It is not my truck and the 4.8 engines I have found are just too expensive to buy-not in his budget. I can get a 5.3 for$300 while 4.8 is around a grand. Like I said,I am helping a friend out with this problem Thank you Jim

As you can see I have the same truck. I find it weird the 4.8 is more expensive. But either way its his choice what he wants, so if you were able to find a complete 5.3 engine including ECU it would be best because they both come with the same transmission. As far as I know, if you were to run them with the same computer you souldnt have any problems at all. Either way to keep all questions and concerns out of mind and have no doubt, id buy a complete 5.3 to play it safe. Remember when buying an engine, dont be cheap

We replace this engine in this model truck pretty regular at work and I find it to be pretty cheap. This peaked my interest so I emailed my engine suppler for today's prices, 6 month parts only warranty $650.00 and 12 month/12k miles warranty $812.00. I remember buying one for as low as $500.00 last year but still not as cheap as the 5.3L for $300.00. If you can make it fit your budget at least you will know it is direct fit? Just my two cents worth. Good luck.

The Gen III 4.8. 5.3 and 6.0 truck engines are all the same in terms of swapability...I'd skip the 5.3 and put a 6.0 in it. It'll run OK on the 4.8 tune, just be sure to get it tuned for the 6.0 asap.
