clear coat over new headlights?
Hey guys, the lights on my car are in real rough shape [sorry no pics, since it's in storage right now]. I was thinking about getting some black Depo replacement lenses this winter. I've read a good amount of the headlight restore threads and a lot of people say to clear over them.
My question is: Is it ok to clear over a brand new headlight? I don't want problems later down the road with yellowing/clouding so I want to take precautions on the new lenses. Also, is there a specific clear you guys recommend? Most threads said the off-the-shelf stuff from parts stores. Thanks!

just wetsand and use mequires compound on them.. ive done it to my mazda, my mothers Santa Fe and my dads ford... they still look new and i did the last one 2 years ago.. the others are older.. get some 1000 and 1500 grit wet paper and soapy water, sand them and then use polish.. I did it by hand.. cost less than 20$ for materials...
edit: finish with 2k grit... then polish..

When i restore headlights i sand them starting with 500 grit to 3000 grit, what actually causes the yellowing is a release coat on the plastic lens, after the sanding process i spray automotive urethane clear coat on them, i use spies hecker, it has uv protection which stops yellowing to continue, it is the same clear coat used on the paint surface on the cars body.
