Default New Heads installed (LS2) - pics and dyno numbers

A few weeks back I removed my stock LS2 heads and went with a set of Trick Flow as cast 220's from Brian Tooley.
Thought I would share some of the pictures along with the dyno results from yesterday.

New Heads

Pistons and deck surface prepped

New heads in place and torqued down with ARP head bolts

Yella Terras installed over Comp 26926 springs and Manton 11/32 pushrods

Back together

Here is the dyno sheet, before numbers were bolt-ons with a comp 235/239 cam.
New numbers are for the Trick Flow as cast 220 cylinder heads, assembled with LS3 valves along with some handy work by Brian Tooley. Also, heads were milled to 61cc.

Nice, that motor is super-clean! ASSuming it wasn't like that on tear-down, what'd you do to clean it up that nice?

Thanks, I taped off each piston and removed the heavy carbon build-up with a flat scraper (gently) then sprayed a scotch-brite with break cleaner to scrub the last bit of carbon off to achieve the final results you see in the picture. Also used the scotch-brite/break cleaner method to clean the blocks deck surface.

These results are with a street tune, will have Dsteck plug his laptop up towards the end of Feb, early March to finalize the WOT tune on the same dyno. Should pick-up an easy 5/5 playing with/maximizing the timing and AFR.

Great to see some numbers. I just did the same thing to my car. Except I went with PRC's and a V3 cam, Kooks 1 7/8.
What size injectors did you wind up going with? After seeing your set up I can appreciate how much work goes into cleaning up all of the carbon on the tops of the pistons. Great job.

Your cam will do just fine, power difference between ours wouldn't be much unless your using some really old lobes.

Looking forward to your results! I am running LS9 injectors with top spacers, I think they are 52lbs. Thanks, that was a bit of work! It all pays off in the end I suppose.

Why did you go with the LS3 valves? And what was the price of the 220?

The ls3 valve is 86ish grams vs. the 110ish ferrer valves which provide better valvetrain stability at a higher rpm. And you would need to contact brian tooley directly on a price.

Pretty much what 1nasty86 said, saved 27 grams on intake valve weight, 83 gm versus 110 gm. Brian Tooley was great to work with, contact him with your project and goals so he can help you out!

Just wanted to share that I re-torqued the head bolts after about a weeks worth of driving, I went with ARP head bolts for price along with them being re-useable. Passenger side had 4 or 5 bolts that moved enough that I'm glad I did this for piece of mind.

cool set up... is this with a6 or a m6? I'm currently in the middle of a h/c and all supporting mods on my car as well. I went with ls3 exhaust ported and milled .015. .04 head gasket, ported l76 intake manifold 228/232 .588/.595 lift 114+2 LSA

M6

That combo should work well, the cam is in the sweet spot from an intake lobe standpoint for sure. The best cam I have seen for LS3 type setups is a 227/235 or something very similar. I know someone that used your cam in an LS2 with Trick Flow 225's and either 11.7 or 12.1 compression (sorry can't remember) with an M6 that made over 500 rwhp.

Looking forward to your results!
