Sounds like an LM7.

LM7 5.3l, should have the 24X Crank.

How do I tell what crank? Any way to identify the engine when it's installed?

Pull Crank Sensor..if it looks like two seperate pieces of metal, 24X.

Its a Gen III 24x motor. Crank trigger will be colored black. The Gen IV 58x one's are grey. Also if it was 58x it would have the side mounted knock sensors as well as the front cam sensor.

Does it have returnless fuel rail? If so it probable on 04 up motor aas some 04 were RL rails by 05 most all the trucks had RL rails. Also look at the injectors and see if it has the flex fuel units to see if its a flex motor.
