Decision between 2 06s
So I'm looking to get into a GTO. Two in my area that I'm going to check out in the next week, looking for thoughts from those that know these cars best. Both from dealers (#1 from a large dealership, #2 from a small little lot, if that matters):
1. 32,000 miles, $23k
2. 57,000 miles, $18k
I like the price of the second one better, as well as the color (maroon for #2, orange for #1). I do like the miles on #1 better. Thoughts on whether or not the extra 25k miles is a significant item?
I have a car to trade-in, so I'm looking to go the dealership route as selling my car seems like it will be a pain in the *** (high mileage '03 tahoe).
One general thought - these seem to be priced at or around NADA retail prices, whereas other cars I was looking at before were mostly right between clean trade-in and retail (335i, g37s, high-mileage CTS-Vs). Is this common (higher prices, relatively), or have I just seen some higher priced ones in my search?
Thanks in advance, looking forward to being in a goat eventually

Asking 23 for an 06 with 32k is way out of line, I paid a lot less for mine with 11,800 miles back in 2008. I did buy it in January in Michigan too so I am sure that was a big reason for the price.

How far would you think I could get that $23k down (definitely not paying $23k)?
Cars are in Houston, just for reference.
Goes back to the relatively high prices of these cars around here. Not sure why.

Always check blue book, then the dealer should always give a free carfax report. If they don't there is something on there they don't want u to see....repo, it was in a natural disasters area, an accident...etc.
I'd call the 32,000 miles dealer and get the base price to 20,800 and work them down once you get there. But $2000 more then blue book is nuts unless its got a lot of HP mods.

My 04 gto was $200 more then blue book from a dealer. One owner and garage kept it. Drove it less then 5,000 a year. Interior is in perfect shape and not a scratch on the paint. Not even on the back fenders where little rocks are bound to hit. I didn't have any room to talk them down even though I tried.
Hey if prices are high in your area drive outta state. I bought mine in VA. Paid MD sales taxes and tags through the loan. Dealer mailed me the tags and reg, never even had to mess with the DMV. Goodluck man, and remember car salesman in general are snakes. It's there job to take your money

Though I'd like to have the lower miles, the other one is looking like a better bet. May just hold off altogether and keep up the search.
I'll take a look, but if that's like this site, they will all be private party sales, no? I really don't want to deal with selling my car privately, looking to go through a dealer.

You can definitely talk them down dont let the rarity of the car fool you. Took me three nights to negotiate on my gto but i got them to go $2600 below book value on mine and mine was in good shape. A 04 with damn near perfect interior and only 52K. If they wont make you the deal you want walk away I almost did and they called me and wanted me to come back to talk numbers some more. Good luck i love mine so far. It is my affordable dream car.

I would rather buy car from private party than a dealer. If you buying from owner he can tell you what was done to the car where it was done he can show your invoices. At dealer you buying car without knowing nothing about it.

23k is hilariously expensive for the first one. Mileage is a preference, if you're going to hot rod the car then paying less for one with more miles makes more sense then paying top dollar for a pristine one only to deflate it's value with modding and beating on it.

Thanks for all the input. $23k one sold before I could go in and try to talk them down.
$18k one has some issues. I'm just going to keep looking and expand my base. If I have to drive further to get a good deal, so be it.

Wow, I hope that guy didn't buy it for $23,000.
Just keep looking. I looked for about 1 1/2 months before I found my 04 with 39,000 miles for $14,400. 05 & 06 outta my price range per month. Plus I figured for $4000-5000 more I could get 50 more HP outta the LS1 and after a few years, drop a more power engine, clutch and drive shaft in it. Hard to beat the 04's on the price. 5.7L 350hp is still a beast man.
