Default Power Closing Hatch

hey guys. this is my first time posting and honestly, I'm not sure if this is in the right place but i figured it could be moved if needed.

Anyway, i figured it would be possible to add something to make the hatch on a trans am or camaro open and close on its own like an escalade or yukon denali. i know there's powered pistons and it would probably need one of those latches that grabs it and pulls it completely closed like the escalade or denali.

I feel like i've seen this on a forum before, maybe even this one. anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this? i think it would be really cool and gonna try to look into it further

I do miss mine on an old 3rd gen I had. I know people had problems with them but I never did and thought it was rather cool. You just had to always remember to tell somebody about it if you weren't the one closing the trunk.

As cool as it was, my guess is that fabbing it up is probably more trouble than it's worth.

At first glance I thought the same thing you did, but I think he's referring to something that would open and close the hatch from completely open to close, rather than the power pull-down from the third gens.

I'm sure it could be done -- who's going to do it first

I'd rather just have the power pull-down

Cool idea I think you should be the first to try it

found this video of a guy who did it on his pantera build with linear actuators. i guess it would just really be a matter of clearance and wiring on an fbody. Adding the power pull down would probably be necessary to latch it closed too.

maybe get faster actuators too

When I had my LT1 Trans Am, I replaced the lift supports for the hatch, and in the hot summer it would do that, I guess the compressed gas would push up the hatch as soon as I would press the keyless transmitter button.
