Default Head Porting on Exhaust Runners

I can't hurt flow by port matching heads on the exhaust side using the gasket as a guide can I? I know the intake runners take some skill to not mess up velocity so I likely will not touch them.

I think I saw this discussed here years ago... I don't remember what the consensus was or even which section it was in. You might be able to find it with a search.

If you're asking this question then please don't touch the heads. Yes you can mess up the flow. They do NOT need to be port matched on the exhaust side.

Hoggin out the exhaust ports is a good way to kill low end torque......if you have to mess with them, clean up the flash and polish if you like.......

I agree if you have to ask this question, don't touch them.

A gasket match is to match up the outlet of the port to the inlet of the manifold or header. If your trying to gasket match the head to anything but an exhaust manifold, your not going to help anything. Most headers are just round tubes that are no where near the same demensions as the exhaust port.

However, if you know what your doing...some bowl work, and blending the valve guide boss can improve flow quite a bit. But getting into the short side radius and taking too much off in certain areas of the port can quickly ruin a set of heads.
