Angry SES light

Well I'm sitting in traffic minding my own business and jamming to the radio when all of a sudden "DING" the SES light comes on. I'm like WTF???

I have no idea what caused it or what code it is throwing.
I don't have headers YET, I've got 23,000 miles on the clock, I haven't changed anything in the engine for like 6-7000 miles so why all of a sudden did the light come on. The only thing that I have done recently is to paint the little plastic grill in the hood of the SS. I just did that this weekend.

I do have a S2 throttle body, P&P Maf ends, TSP lid and the dreaded K&N filter (oh no)

Do i need to take it to the dealer and get them to look at it and if so do i need to put the stock lid, maf, and paper filter in before i go? The only thing that I can't change out is the S2.

Anyohter ideas of what I should do before I change everything out and go to the dealer.

The real kicker is I just ordered headers this weekend and they are not even here yet and I'm already throwin a code. I guess just thinking about the Long tubes is doing it to the car LOL!!!

Anyway advice please, thanks

Get it scanned to find out what the code is and go from there.

You should be able to get it scanned at AutoZone or PepBoys.

Well I went to Autozone and its an o2 sensor. Well my thought is to just not worry about it because in about 2-3 weeks I'm going to be installing headers, new catted Y and o2 sensors. So i think that the problem will "be taken care of" so to speak. Is that a good idea or do I need to go let the dealer do their dirty work first?

I actually had the same thing happen right before I put headers on my car. You should be ok to drive it just a little while if you are going to be swapping them soon. Just make sure you don't put the old 02 back in the new headers.

Which O2 sensor? One of the rears? I wouldn't worry about it if it's one of the rears. Just get some SIMS
