Default Lifter difference

I had a lifter die on my 2001 5.3. I ordered a new one #17122490 and it looks different. The roller is encased where the old one is fully exposed. Is this an updated unit?

Yes, GM uses the "ls7" lifter as a replacement for all lifters back to the 80s Vortec SBC engines from my understanding.

i would not suggest just changing only one lifter, if one died, then the rest are on their way. replace all of them. and yes the enclosed one is stronger
