i am asking because i am looking to but a 97+ headunit for my T/A to replace the aftermarket system in there now, and one guy told me i need to have the stock amp, i this true?

i'm not sure about the LT1 cars but i believe on LS1 cars the stock am is located over by the rear wheel well area (passanger side), i think its over by where the spare tire/jack are
