Got 2 wins in my LT1 on sunday. First was more of a close win than kill. My car (mods in sig) vs a 2005 CTS-V with a magnaflow exhaust. We did a ~35 roll both starting in 2nd gear. I jumped out a car or so real quick and he made it back to my door by the top of 4th when we let off. I was very suprised, considering I thought I was going to get killed.
Second race was my LT1 vs a 2000 SS auto with a lid and gmmg exhaust. We did a 2nd thru 3rd roll and I pulled about 2 cars (I was spinning bad too) before we got out of it.
I got both races on video, but there are on facebook and have no idea how to link them here. Just figured I would share. Looks like the ol LT1 can still put up a fight ;)

That mph is about dead on with a bone stock first gen V, as sad as that is. 45 is a better 2nd gear roll for the V so thats probably why you got that instant car.

For the record, this was at a rental at Atco a few months ago, and the orange (LS1) car left in 2nd gear, and a week or so later, during a tear down, was found to have a bad bottom end (can't remember what exactly was wrong with the car, off the top of my head right now).
Details on your car, as far as weight reduction, please? I know you eliminated the AC and basic emissions stuff; Anything else? And were you spraying anything out of that Nitrous Outlet kit, or running NA?

Car was full weight minus what you said. N/A spray wont be ready for a few more weeks. And yes Beggs car was a piece:D. I think the rings were messed up when they tore it down like 2 months later. Just figured I would post it for the hell of it...

BTW: OP, what does your car weigh with you in it? At 300whp, it's gotta be in the 3400# area, si?
And trans is built to handle 600rwhp, and stage 4 clutch?
I think the transmission differences are what did the other cars in. that's all speculation though; Definitely want to see the vids. Stock stall & geared LS1s, with stock (pretty much) everything, are kind of slouches, sadly. Just from previous experiences, I feel like that V should have had you. You guys only did the one run?

If you looked in my car at the meet, it has a full interior in it at the moment. Race was to like maybe 80 or so. Didnt really jump. Pulled up to his fender at the 2nd honk and hit it on the third. There was a better race we did right after but no video of it.

Car is around 3400 (prolly closer to 3450) with me in it when the interior is out, but the interior was in the car for this. Car weighed roughly 3565 with me in at at etown with the interior in the car. Yes about the trans and clutch. The V has an ls7 clutch. I feel like the V might have gone around me if it lasted a little longer but we got off at ~115 because there was a car in my lane. If my memory serves me correct I think the SS went like 13.2 or 13.3 at Island in October...

I can see it, the Cts-v is not 400+ hp. LS6 puts down in the 340ish rwhp range stock. add catback say 350ish rwhp. Add in the weight factor, There ya go

The CTS-V is about 3,850 lbs, and if it gets the LS6 from the Corvette (which was rated at 405HP 2003 and up) then it should be over 400HP. Can't say for sure on WHP, not sure what they put down there.
Race should have been pretty close, won't know for sure until OP coughs up some videos, but those CTS-V's are no slouch.

I am aware of what GM rated their horsepower at. I am aware of what they put down to the ground as well and stock Ls6's are typically in the 340-350rwhp range.
I am also looking forward to the video because I would think this would be a very close race. But I am not surprised if the outcome has the LT1 in favor

I really only take issue with this bold statement. The CTS-V is rated at 400HP from the factory, however the very same LS6 in the Vette is rated at 405HP, so technically it is over 400HP.
However, the WHP is pretty accurate.

idk what to think. i have seen auto and stick C5's, T/A's and Camaro LS1's run mid 13's at Atco when i was pulling low 13's with just an UD pulley/E fan mod and tune... i saw no ridiculous 60' times to explain it. hell i beat two Charger SRT8's one night that were running 13.2's to my 13.0's. they couldn't believe nor could i. shit happens. not that far fetched if you really think about it? good running LT1 vs shitty less than average LS1's?
for the record first track trip my stock 1k mile two month old truck ran 13.49-13.57 @102+..

And mod for mod is one of the lamest arguements there is. Nobody is going to wait for you to get a cam, blower, slicks, etc etc before they do. Once you start to mod, no matter what the car, all bets are off. Take your superiorly slower car and go home.

The only FAIR way to compare two cars is stock vs stock. And in stock form the LS1 rapes the LT1, plain and simple. Don't be butt hurt you have an inferior engine.

It's really no secret that the LS1 is superior and has more potential. LS1's have touched 7's, that I know of, possibly lower.
And my LS1 is inferior to a lot of engines, the Coyote motor is a beast compared to mine, so is the LS3. They replaced the LT1 with the LS1 because it was better and faster, did that ever cross your mind?

Hmmm, then I wonder why, on Dictionary dot com, it is listed as an adverb on the bottom of the page for superior?
Anyway, what an engine can do stock means nothing when it comes to how fast the car does or doesn't go. Look at a standard SBC or BBC. They were replaced, yet none of the current engines can touch what those engines have accomplished at the track.

More often than not, in my own personal experience, modded LTX guys have spent less money to hit 10's and 11's than modded LSX guys (this also includes the purchase prices of the car).

I know my lt1 is inferior old tech I never claimed it to be better than the ls1 or any other engine but it is by no means worthless as most ls1 guys make it out to be and just because I care the best motor gm ever had made beared the lt code the lt5 and if my lt1 goes that's what will go in not an ls

I'm not saying the LT1 is crap, I would take an LT1 over a 2v 4.6 any day of the week. The LT1 has plenty of potential, some of them are very fast cars, and it's incredible to see that so many are still out there today putting a beating on newer cars.
The only point I'm trying to make is that the LS1 is a superior engine, the end, stop getting butt hurt.
What's wrong with listing Bilstein shocks? It's merited me a few PM's asking how I like them, helping out fellow F-body owners with my experiences, without listing it they wouldn't have asked me.

Talk about butt hurt. Every time an LS1 loses a race, all you hear is either "if the LSWONDER would have had this or this mod" or "that guy must have spent so much money, definitely not worth it"
More often than not, in my own personal experience, modded LTX guys have spent less money to hit 10's and 11's than modded LSX guys (this also includes the purchase prices of the car).

You know what I change my mind the ltx was by far the best engine ever built by gm. They took a massive step backwards when they built the ls1 that weak pos. The aluminum block doesn't even make a good boat anchor.

Nothing wrong to mod one-they can run. You couldn't pay me to put headers on a LT1 Fbody again though;)

:lol: Are they at least revalved, or do you know what that means? The only Bilsteins I ever liked were the Strano's I ran in my WS6 with BMR springs. The Level II's that came stock on my '97 SS weren't that great.

I will have many LSX kill videos this year. Everyone will call BS and a few of us will defend the kill. It almost doesn't seem worth it because nobody will believe any of the runs. Ifs my rear end stays attached, I should have no problem running 10's.

As for the V from a roll... I have to see this video. Not doubting your LT1, etc... but to roll out on a V up until 115mph... idk. I have to see it on vid. I know its magnaflow exhaust (which is basically like stock setup, since both are 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust systems) and having a clutch isn't really a power-adder. I've seen first gen Vs trap 107-109 bone stock with a decent driver.
Either way, not taking away your kills if you got 'em. Anything can happen on the street. Vids? I just scoured like 5 pages, and found 2 dead facebook links at best.

I tell you what guys I have a race coming up in about 2 weeks against a 95 Formula with a LT1 396ci stroker motor and spray. I have a 403ci LS2 all motor 2002 Camaro Z28. We racing all out so we going to see who's better.
His car is a track car (not a street car) I have a street car with A/C heat and leather seats full weight (3540lbs). I also run on pump gas.
So tell me guys who do you think will win?

Not sure about the DA but first pass right off the trailer with the new motor went 10.40@130mph. Then a 10.41@129mph and the the third pass of the night was a 10.39@129mph. All three passes where made back to back with no cool down in between. I was really just testing the car out and trying to break in the motor with a few WOT passes. I need to tighten the converter up a little because it's to loose so after this is done and now that the motor is broken in it should E.T. a little better than it did before.

That's awesome. I hope to lighten mine up a bit. Not sure what the weight is but I know it's a lot heavier than that. Also looking forward to slapping on some AI CNC'd TFS heads. That's my next big mod (unless my 10 bolt blows up).

Switching over to a carbed setup is something I'll never do.
There really aren't any built LTX cars around here. I've only seen a handful of LT1 cars at Thompson and they are all either stock or bolt on. There was one full bolt on nitrous T/A but that was it.

When I said no other mods I meant that I'm running a 306 cam on stock intake and stock heads with just a valve job on the stock valves. If you have read any of my other posts, I've stated what else the car has done to it. I was on the verge of 11's last year before I had ignition problems and I've since bumped the compression, added full roller rockers, switching over to lightweight rims, LTCC kit, 150rwhp shot and a forged shortblock (just because I didn't want to make a mess in case the stock 106k mile bottom end didn't hold up.
It'll be more like a 10 second run.
Also, would a 550+rwhp 2V be fast enough for you?

I didn't mean any disrespect.. I guess it's better said like this.. Any car can be made fast. I've seen 11 scond cars beat down 10 second cars. On the street the fastest car doesn't always win. Also sometimes the way something should happen isn't always the way it happens! You must admitt though we have been getting bogus claims about certain cars beating other cars they shouldn't be no wheres near beating..

Any time someone starts talking about a certain car doing this and that better than other cars is the ONLY reason I bring my car up. I can prove that LS cars can be bad ass. I know people that can prove that LT cars and Mustangs are bad ass! Tanner got a car running in the 9's with a 6speed. Great but don't you think for one minute that a Ford or a LS motor couldn't do the same thing!! I agree that the LT cars sounding bad ass in the f-body but you can't beat the sound of a LS powered vette!!

Any time someone starts talking about a certain car doing this and that better than other cars is the ONLY reason I bring my car up. I can prove that LS cars can be bad ass. I know people that can prove that LT cars and Mustangs are bad ass! Tanner got a car running in the 9's with a 6speed. Great but don't you think for one minute that a Ford or a LS motor couldn't do the same thing!! I agree that the LT cars sounding bad ass in the f-body but you can't beat the sound of a LS powered vette!!

That's freaking awesome I love watching cars like that run down the track. That's what my buddies car looks (different color) like but his doesn't run like that one does.. Thunder racing use to have a LT 355ci sbc that ran in the low 10's high 9's on motor.. Solid roller reving it to the moon.. You making me miss my car right now. I can't drive it because I am working 7-12's right now.. :(

That's a nasty vehicle! A little too RACECAR for me though.
I just like the fact that Taner's car is still streetable, is only 388ci and no wheelie bar, no bolt on hood and the interior isn't completely gutted. The LT1 aftermarket is still picking up, which is nice to see. There are a lot of guys really pushing them these days which gives me hope, considering I'm sticking with my LT1 til death do us part (and by that I mean my death, not the cars). I just wish more people would build badass FI LT1's. Almost all of the really impressive ones at the track are either hauling ass on small cube N/A motors (like Joe O's low 9 second N/A 388 years back) or running nitrous like Tony Shep's mid 8 second beast.

LT1s do sound great. Believe me, I used to own one. Just wasn't worth it for me to modify and sold it because I worked too much to ever drive it.
Still prefer the looks of a 98-02 WS6 more. For me, my current wants are C6>C5>98-02 WS6

I agree. I would much rather have a street car than an all out race car. Unlike RedFire 03 all he likes to have are penises!! In his bottom area.. Sorry I couldn't resist the shot..

I flirted with the idea of doing a black '96/'97 SS with a full bolt-on LS3 under the hood, a 150 or so shot of nitrous, and still leaving the stock 2OTL exhaust on there with an e-cutout. That would leave a lot of people wondering "what just happened?". :lol:

That's the slowest bolton ls1 f-body I ever saw. I did 12.60@107mph with bolt-ons only..
thats because its not a "full bolt on" LS1. its had a SLP LM1, Mac midlenghts and LCA/TQ arm. also had shot rings. still a bad time for a LS1 with breathing mods, but by no means a full bolt on car as coolmanvette stated

Shit a guy i know locally trapped 111 with Lid, ported TB, and chopped of OEM muffler with a full interior full optioned 02 SS. At the end of the day is this, it takes alot more for an LTx car to match or run the numbers that the LSx cars are running. Doesn't mean they CANT run those times, just means they are a couple steps behind in the mod for mod discussion. Which in stock form and many ways makes them inferior.
