Default Has anyone tried pushing an LY2 to it's limits?

I have been running a lm7 with 76mm making 690whp in my fox drag car. I have been toying with the idea of playing around with an 07 up 4.8L (LY2) to see if it could make / hold more power in near stock form than my lm7 with same mods (not that I think I have even hit its thresh hold yet) I do still plan on pushing the lm7 a little farther soon. Anyways heres the things I like about the ly2 after looking into the specs a little. Stronger rods, floating wrist pins, better flowing heads (243's-799's)than (706's-862's), 9.1to1 comp perfect for higher boost, better rod to stroke ratio. Im thinking the right cam / valve train / turbo setup and supporting fuel system some big numbers could be made. What are your guys thoughts?

I read a thread on YB about a guy who was running 21-22lbs to a bone stock untouched lm7 for a while. The engine lasted over 150 passes then he turned it up to 23-24 and it blew a head gasket.

Do it! Im interested.

Skinnies 05 L33 makes 855rwhp. A 4.8 at 900rw would be pretty impressive.

I'm going to upgrade to 80# from 60# injectors and 243 heads on my lm7 and turn the boost up to somewhere around 21-22psi shooting for 800+whp. It made 665@15psi. We will see what happens but if it spits parts I think ill try a 4.8 next.

its a 2008 junkyard motor, PRC dual springs, ZR1 cam, and ARP bolts for insurance.

only 19lbs of boost. it has to be making well over 600rwhp because it traps 126.5

(denmah) Time to go get some dyno numbers. Just imagine what it would do in a lighter weight vehicle.

Do a Google search for, big bang theory. I think its a hot rod mag. Article. Made 1200 with over 60 dyno pulls.

That is a older 4.8 though with weaker rods. I think the weak point will be the ring lands so the stronger rods might not be a factor.
