Generation III External Engine - can you bench test A/C compressor?

trying to find out if this used A/C compressor works and if it leaks... anyone now how to test it. i hooked 12v up to the a/c compressor plug and the clutch clicked and sucked in 1/2" or so. so does that mean that the clutch works? how about if it leaks?
