Widening 16" wheels
I currently have 17x11 Street Lites in the rear but i'm wanting to run a 315/45/16 Mickey Thompson. I'm thinking about getting some 16x8 Street Lites and having them widened to 16x11. Which leads me to my question. My 17x11's are 7.75" backspace, so if i get a 16x8 with a 4.75" backspace and have the wheel widened to 16x11 will that yield me a 7.75" backspace?

Sounds good, and that will work, but just get them widened 3".
Why, because wheel width is measures on the inside of the lip, not the outside of the lip. So if you only widened the wheels to a overall width of 11", it would actually be about a 10" wheel, not about 12" like it should be.

Yea I think that should work. The great thing is that by getting to pick the right backspace on the new wheels you end up with a wider wheel with the right backspace to bolt right on without having to use spacers to set it back out.I doubt everyone would buy new wheels just to send out to be widened but it will get you just what you want.
