Default Oil pressure...

I know this is a worn out topic but I just want some opinions here. Okay after my z28 got totaled (rear ended pretty hard) I found a 00 WS6 Trans Am with around 110k miles on it in replacement about a month ago. I love the car and it runs great but I'm not liking my oil pressure, when I start it up cold its around 40 but when it starts to get hot after driving for awhile at idle its at about 18-19 and 30-35 while cruising That seems just way too low although its in limits. And the guy I bought it off of said he replaced the sending unit. I'm not sure if improperly installed could cause false readings? I plan to do a cam swap in the future with a new oil pump etc and I just want to make sure the engine isn't too tired. Btw I'm running Mobil 1 5w-30 but plan on switching to a higher viscosity while I get this sorted out. Any suggestions?

I'm in the same situation.Read my topic someone said 2000 and down LS1 tend to have bad pickup tube o-rings and weaker oil pump than 01+.Look for the gauge and oil pressure sending unit first.

+1 on the o ring, immediately after you start does it take your pressure a few seconds to jump up or does it go right away?

Thanks for the replies. I just went out to start the car and from cold it takes 2-3 seconds to build pressure, but after I shut it off and start it back up the pressure builds up immediately. I'll check the sending unit with a mirror and flashlight after school. Any more input would be appreciated.
