LQ4 Build advise
I came across your site and I'm glad I'm here. Seems to be a ton on knowledge here. So with that.....
I have a 1967 Camaro and a lot of the times I get guys in newer Mustang GTs who want to race and from the most part my car has no problem with them. Well recently I got my doors blown off by a 2009 GT500. Being a die hard Chevy fan this not acceptable.
Recently I got an LQ4 from a friend's wrecked 2005 P/U. So here is the build I'm thinking about. Now I'm new to the LSx engines. I have build a ton of Gen I sb so I hope some of that knowledge is helpful. I see a ton of dyno builds online and while they are impressive; the dyno cart and in the car on the street is totally difference. Here is what I'm thinking:
LQ4 Iron Block bored .030 over.
Forged rods and pistons. (about 10.5 to 1 CR)
LS3 heads
LS3 Intake
90mm or 102mm TB (not sure if the 102mm will fit the LS3 intake)
Stock rocker arms
Comp Cams LSR Series Duration at 050 inch Lift 219 int./227 exh
Lift 0.607 int./0.614 exh and 112 degree lobe sep.
Also a really good tune. This is for starters.
So...question is there is the LS3 heads as cast or CNC ported. Are as cast heads just fine for this build? Also, this is a street car for the most part and I don't want to give up a lot of torque down low and have the car be sluggish leaving a stop light for example.
The car will also have a 6 speed manual and 3.73 gears in the rear.
So, that is the basics; what do you think....good build or am I off?

Get a 4.0in stroker kit and make it a 402/408 you'll need to get it in a machine shop that knows what they're doing. Then I'd consider a bigger cam. LPE (Lingenfelter ) and TEA both sponsors here do cnc work on the Ls3 heads. I would also try to get that compression up to about 11-11.5 but be careful because of your bore size and you'll need to check PTV clearances as well. Just a fee things that cone to my mind.
