1998 was the last year that GM built the 1LE option. After 1998 GM shipped the cars to SLP to install the 1LE options. 1998 was also the last year that GM used the Auburn limited slip in the rear end. As far as I have been able to discover, GM built 99 1LE Z28 Camaros in 1998. One way to spot one was the Z28 emblem and no fog lights or T-tops. The cars came realatively stripped to conseve weight. No power windows, or power locks. No sound deading material in the car.
This car was purchase originally to race at SCCA autocrosses. The original owner trailered the car to events. The car was not driven on the street for the first two years of its life. The second owner also autocrossed it but also used it as a daily driver. I am the third owner of the car. I autocrossed it for several years and then retired the car when newer cars took over in my class. The car was garaged until the gas prices shot through the roof and then I went back to driving the Camaro instead of my truck. The car gets good milage on the highway and can do well in the city if you stay out of the throttle.
