Pontiac Firebird 1967-2002 - Any way to adjust the console shift in a 67 Firebird ( tranny)

My shift mechanism on my 67 Firbird automatic console is quite sloppy. Is there any way to set this up so that when the shifter is moved, it actually locks in place? I find this shifter quite loose. Any thoughts on this? Thanks
