Default 2004 Thermostat Housing Fits 1998?

I bought a 2004 160 degree thermostat thinking it would fit in my 98' but today learned that the 98-2003s use a different 2 piece style. So heres my question, I already have the 2004 thermostat, can I just purchase a 2004 housing and bolt it onto my 98, or is the bolt pattern/something else different? Thanks in advance

did the exact same thing you did, but i already had a newer housing to use..hence why i bought the thermostat. yes it will work, i run this same setup on my 99 trans am.

might as well, the newer style thermostats are a hell of alot cheaper than the older style that comes with the housing.
