Default Side mirror replace

Has anyone just spliced together and soldered mirror wires instead of taking inside door panel off to get at the connecter to unplug. How hard is it to get the panel off and is there any tricks to the panel removal or order of things to do first?

Why would you just cut wires and resplice them instead of unplugging the connector? It takes all of 2 minutes to remove the door panel and do the job properly. All you need to do is remove the door lock, then the handle and button covers, take out the panel screws and then it lifts right off.

The hardest part of the door panel for me was getting the little lock slider back in. I left it out.
