LQ4 advice.....
#1
I picked up an LQ4 My plans are to put it into and S10 I am going to run the LS6 intake manifold with the LS6 injectors and fuel rails along with the LS6 cam and valve springs.
I want to deck my heads as much as possible to bring up my compression. I have the ability to deck my own heads I just need to know how much I can take off without getting valve to piston contact.
Thanks guys if anyone has this info let me know
Ryan
These plans are not set in stone and if you guys recommend a different set up please speak up. Heads seem to be out of my price range right now but I am not against pulling the motor down and putting in a set of LQ9 pistons.

honestly bro u can buy stock ls3/l92 heads for like 7-800$ complete and if its that bad go on summit and buy 1 head at a time you will be better off in the long run trust me ls3/l92 heads on a lq4/lq9 run pretty mean and flow great

Why not just find a set of used 243. You can reuse your LS6 intake and not have to buy a new intake with the LS3/L92's even though the LS3's do flow really well stock but figure the cost of intake and new 90mm TB as well. The smaller chambers will boost CR more. You can mill them as well to gain more CR as well should get around 10.4 with a 243 head depending on HG of course with the LQ4 piston, more CR if milled. Be cheaper than installing flattops.

ok if your heads are 317's or 873's your flow chart looks horrible and restricted you would need to mill, deck, port n polish and 3 angle to even think you can break 300cfm's
avg intake CFM = 178 and at 600 lift CFM = 240
avg exhaust CFM =138 and at 600 lift CFM = 177
the specs for the stock Ls3/l92 heads are as follows
avg intake CFM = 250 and at 650 lift CFM = 327 goes .50 lift higher then lq4 heads
avg exhaust CFM = 179 and at 650 lift CFM = 240
so you can see why the LS3/L92 heads are so much better they flow over 300 CFMs at .450lift which your going to have way better top end and proally an increase of 25-40 whp over the heads you plan on doing ls3's react real good with a fast ls3 intake and big cam with the ls3 heads you should expect 400hp+ with a good cam and tune
figuring hes on a budget i can see the 243's as i hav some laying around but it sounded as he hasnt bought any manifolds or anything yet just wanted to give him a power upgrade choice with the 243's and ls6 ull be ok but best bang for your buck is ls3 heads, mani, and i got a TB if u need one lol 90mm :-)

well figuring untouched they can handle a .550 lift cam so to be 100% honest id order the cam from TSP as theyve helped me out alot i would think you want to stick with a
ls3 cam or ive run a torquer v2 i might still have it id have to check i got 2 or 3 cams where i build my cars or u can upgrade the springs and run any cam you want really but best thing to do is call TSP or contact one of them on here and ask them whats the best cam setup for lq4 with ls3 heads and theyll def help u sorry i cant help out much more then that i just know what runs great together i personally love ms3's powerwise and soundwise there mean and fun to play with

budget wise u can run a stock ls3 mani but make sure when u buy a mani its for a ls3/l92 as its rec ports not cathedral

would you run stock ls3 injectors with that set up or step up to something bigger???
would my stock truck throttle body bolt on to the ls3 manifold enough to get it running and swapped into the truck that would be easy enough to swap out while the motor is in the truck
