Tilt Steering Wheel Play 93 Trans Am
On my car, if you lift up and down on the steering wheel there is about 1/2-3/4" of up an down travel on the steering wheel. The slop is for sure in the Locking part of Tilt Steering Column.
My question are there any servicing parts available to rebuild the locking assy or I am off to get a replacement column.
I dont know the history of this car but there does not appear to be any "Real Crash" damage on the car.

same problem on mine. failed a state inspection.
took it to the dealer, there is an assembly inside the column which comes apart due to a lack of locking mechanism or use of loctite on the bolts.
problem is, its a $1k repair.

Tony,
Do you have a more specific description of what part came apart along with the parts required to fix it? My guess is the $1000 was for the dealer to do the repair, correct?

yes they are right. I just got done rebuilding mine in my 2000 ss. Mine was alot worse. I used all the parts out of a good 88 chevy truck. Pretty much the same. But just some slack, that is going to be from the torx bolts loosing up.
