Stock 99 cobra m5 vs 01 z28
My roommate has a bone stock 99 cobra with 5 speed. Only mod is gutted cats. I have tsp lts ls6 manifold tune lca lca relocation brackets sfc panhard and new tires. Every time we race i see nothing but tail lights from him. Wtf. I don't want to risk messing up my car by manually shifting so I put it in D. We do a 25 a 30. I just can't beat him. Is it because I floor it on the 3rd honk and it take a second to kick down and by then he's already taken off? I don't spin or anything. Any ideas? I don't see why his stock vs my mods beats me. Any idea?!?!?!

There's no hidden shot. Iv worked on the car with him. He swears I should beat him. I'm just scared to do it manually cuz Iv never raced by manually shifting. Idk how to do it.

Good lord. You have a 01 z28 with lt's and can't outrun a stock 99 cobra? We can't tell you if it's because your flooring it on the third honk but it should be pretty obvious if he is getting a head start that way. Now if it was a Mach 1, you will get beat by about 15 lengths.

Had this same thing happen in my Mark vs my brothers CROWN VIC cop car..talk about embarrassing.
You need to start in the proper gear (most likely "2", but I'm not familiar with LS1 gearing) and then carefully manually shift over to "D" at redline. Make sure O/D is off.
Practice this on a few wide open stretches.

for a 60 roll( 2.xx gears), I select second, wait for beeps, got wot on third beep and then click it back into OD before I get anywhere near my shift.
I NEVER keep it in OD and wait for kick down, sometimes it will go to third and not second at first and thats an instant loss of a race.
But, you should be able to punch it after him and still run him down.....you should be WAY up on power.

hit it on the second honk so by time it drops down and goes its the third, I lot of my auto buddies do that. Anyway your car is either fairly unhealthy or he isnt telling you about something on the cobra.

idk but it pisses me the hell off!
when he was trying to sell it one guy said it has a green dot on the driver side head which means its a factory replaced newer engine than the 99s. but idk anything about fords.
