Default Faint tick at 1500-1600 rpm

My car lightly ticks at 1500-1600 rpm. I've never really noticed it till now, but it seems to be on the driver side.

Is this the "GM tick" I've read about?

It has royal purple in it now, thinking about going back to pennzoil platinum to see if it fixes it.

If you can, put your hand around the exhaut ports and see if you can feel air puffing out and/or look for any soot poking out near a port.

It could be anywhere in the exhaust, but I suspect the flange has loosened off the head some and is leaking right at the gasket around the port.

How many miles are on the motor? From what I understand, in higher mileage LS motors sometimes the oil pump gets weak and should be replaced. Once, this is done, the "tick" goes away. Basically, the top side of the motor is just not eating enough oil at lower RPM's.

The motor has about 80k

It has real good oil pressure.

I'll check for leaks tonight
