Default Selling a car before it is in your name

Has anyone here bought a car, and turned around & re-sold the car before putting it in their name? Is it legal, or can you get in trouble for something like that?

Ive done this a few times before theres nothing wrong with it as long as the previous owner signed it, itll be like you he sold it to the person your selling it to.

Its illegal. Agreed with above. But, i do it regularly. As long as its signed by who YOU bought it from, its like the previous owner sold it to them.

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure it's illegal. It called title jumping.

If you have a dealers license, you're allowed to.

Yes you can do it if you did not put your name on the title. No it's not legal. Will you get cought? Most likely not. If the title was dated there is a $25.00 a month late fee for not transfering it. Are you the one buying or selling?

if you signed the title you are screwed, as long as you havent signed the title and the title application you should be good. it may not be exactly legal but this is one of those things no one really cares about.

Just because you can get away with it doesn't mean it's legal or that no one cares. The government DOES care and will prosecute you if caught. They want their taxes. Dealers are licensed and must follow strict regulations to be able to resale. State law varies but limits private parties to only "x" number of transactions a year and do require you to title the vehicle.

Not really. The original ownner can say the sale fell through. Or if he wanted to be a stand up guy and pay his taxes. He can go in pay his taxes and not transfer it to his. The guy he sells it to pays his taxes and it can go straight to his name.

Yep it is against the law just like removing your cats on a street car or even street racing!!! No one on this forum ever breaks the law...

Is it illegal? Yes.
Are there loopholes to every law? Yes.
Trust me when I say that when you sell a car with your name not on the title you become a "Broker" meaning that you found a buyer for the said seller.(Buyer pays taxes)
Any title company will do this for you for a small fee.

Yes it is illegal! Buyer is supposed to transfer title over to their name. But the probability of you getting caught is slim to none. Just make sure the seller doesn’t date the back of the title. If he does, then whoever gets title transferred in their name has 30 days (I believe), and if not transferred in that time frame = late penalties $$$.

Been there & done that, so good luck
;-)
