Default LQ9 timing chain issue

Building a 408 & I bought a timing set from a local hot rod shop, single roller.
Put it on last night and I have at least 1/2" of slop in it.
Do I have the wrong set or am I missing something here????
Thanks

I thought he sold me a factory GM replacement but now I'm not sure??
Someone told me I needed a LS2 Timing Chain Tensioner but after looking at them on line and looking at my block........well there are no holes to attach the darn thing too

Yea I'm sure they weren't on the Lq's but iirc they can be tapped for it. I have a C5r timing chain and they are a little tighter than an Ls2 chain.

Looks like my choice's are:
A: Drill a fully assembled Short Block and buy a 15.00 part
B: Buy a Cloyts Hex Adjust for 175.00

Not thrilled about either!
Thanks for the reply's 88

Take the chain back and get what you need.

Running a LS2 Chain on my LQ9... No Tensioner. Shifting it a 7300rpm with ARP rod bolts...

Agreed. The trick flow dampner will allow you to use the Ls2 dampner without drilling holes.

So will that bracket with the Tensioner take care of the slop or is it just to help keep the chain straight?
