408 n20 vs L76 w/ turbo
So I've been tinkering around with the idea of selling my carb 408 and looking into a turbo 5.3 or LQ if I found one at a deal.
My 408 is a basic setup ls3 heads, Vic jr, e85 setup carb. Been running a 150 hit and getting great results, which is part of the reason why I am hesitant to swap over.
Anywho, the other day my buddy calls that his shop just got a truck in with something wrong with the motor, motor was running but had low compression on #7. Truck was an 08 Vortec max (L76 with VVT and AFM). We believe it at a lifter. Scooped the motor for $300. Should be a simple fix.
If I moved forward I would sell my entire 408 setup turnkey + my stand alone nitrous setup plus plate kit. I figure I can sell it for enough to go fuel injected and buy a decent used turbo plus everything to get the thing running again.
My concern is performance sacrifices, and obviously durability. Going from a built 408 to a stock bottom end motor kinda makes me nervous. Im going stud the l76 and do rid bolts. Also will gap the rings to help a little but keep stock rotating assembly.
My performance with the 408 is pretty good considering an ultra tight converter. It has been almost 146 mph on a botched pass on a 150 hit 132 on motor. I know nothing about turbos but assuming I get a decent 80 or 88mm and run this setup on e85 and 16-18 lbs could I see similar numbers. Consider this is going in a sub3000 lb mustang coupe. One of the main benefits would be the ability to run pump gas on a different tune with fuel injection.
I can't imagine a huge difference in performance between the two settle, but I also spraying a small shot, could go to a 250 or 300.

If it was me I would stick with your setup.
Unless you really Wana go through the hassle of a turbo.
When its not one thing its another , takes a while to get it right, but when you do get it right, it will fly.!

^^^Beat me to it!
E85 works wonders! You can make it a blow thru set up and keep all of what you have. OBX makes those up and forward stainless turbo headers for stangs for 500 bucks. Make your crossover and you are almost there.
$300 for an L76! I would buy thst just for the hell of it. C'mon you really don't need it, sell it to me!

I need the funds from the 408 to build the kit an get a quality turbo. The plan before was to start building a 440 and keep the 408 or bit. Now it's test the turbo stuff out on this L76 learn how to make em work and build a 440 and go 275 radial racing.
Really it's more of a learning motor.

LS3 choices
I have been pondering as i'm building my car now, got my hands on a 14 LS3 and putting a Cam From Cam Motion with a 118 LSA 230 - 238 @ 050 and 612/607 lift.... going into a 72 Monte and having a Trans built now, i'm pondering the ProCharger or Turbo Route since its dam hot here in the summer, i considered the Bottle, yet i am pondering Turbo too.... should be a high 11sec ride on DR on motor... yet I know the turbo is much easier on parts, bearings, rods and pistons with proper tuning... i am using Holley's Dominator EFi for engine and trans control.. I know once i build the turbo setup i'll be happy, i'm just curious how the durability of these S476 turbos will perform as i'm only familiar with diesel turbo stuff and that's limited, how do i size a single for a stock LS3?
Should be fun once i get my mind made up....
